Dr. B. J. Gokul, MD (Medicine), DM (Gastro), FAGIE, ESEGH (UK) is an Associate Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist at MedIndia Hospitals, Chennai

A recipient of Prof. N. Madanagopalan Gold Medal for standing first in DM Gastroenterology examination (2010) conducted by the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. After his DM, he completed his ‘Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy’, a program affiliated to The Tamil Nādu Dr MGR Medical University in 2016. In pursuit of his passion for advanced endoscopy, he won a Fellowship in third-space endoscopy from the Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai under the mentorship of Prof. Pinghong Zhou. Also, he successfully passed the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH) conducted by the General Medical Council (GMC), UK, in 2020. 

A decade of association with Padmashree awardee Dr T. S. Chandrasekar, FRCP, FACGE, DSc has equipped him with some of the finest skills in therapeutic endoscopy to deal with the most complex challenges in gastroenterology (GE). Apart from regular GE practice, his expertise includes advanced therapeutic ERCP techniques for various hepato-biliary pancreatic disorders, diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EUS), and third-space endoscopy procedures including Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) for achalasia cardia.

His academic works were published in various national and international journals and has authored book chapters in medicine and gastroenterology.

He is a member of various national and international professional organizations including World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO), World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO), Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), ISG – Tamil Nadu chapter, Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI), Indian National Association for Study of the Liver (INASL), Association of Physicians of India (API) and Indian Motility and Functional Diseases Association (IMFDA)
